Raymond J. Papaj Sr., 60, of Hazleton died Friday at his residence.

He was born in Buffalo, N.Y., son of Helen (Lukatch) Kringer of Hazleton and the late Stanley A. Papaj.

Although born in Buffalo, he spent most of his life in the Hazleton area. He was employed in the asphalt business most of his life.

Raymond was an avid sports fan and longtime fan of the Buffalo Bills.

He was preceded in death, in addition to his father, by his brother, Stanley J. Papaj, and stepfather, Alvin “Abbie” Kringer.

He is survived, in addition to his mother, by his son, Raymond J. Papaj Jr., Hazle Township; his sisters, Sandra D. Wagner, Hazleton; and Ann Marie Kringer and her fiancé, Joseph Cramond, McAdoo; nephews and nieces, Kevin Wagner Jr. and his wife, Tara Gimbi, Kimberly Wagner, Christine Wagner, and Ryan and Kayla Knight, who are both his godchildren.

Friends and relatives will be received by the family Friday from 5 to 8 p.m. at Frank J. Bonin Funeral Home Inc., 542 N. Wyoming St., Hazleton. A Christian Wake service will be held Friday at 6 p.m. Interment will be held at the convenience of the family.
