Blane B. Bates Blane B. Bates, 53, of State College, PA, died Monday, June 29, 2009. Blane was the owner of Hairways Salon, 353 East College Avenue; he operated at that location for 24 years. Blane was part hair stylist, part psychologist and 100% friend to all of his clients. Blane is survived by a brother Blair Bates, sister-in-law Felicia and niece Monica, all of Bethlehem, PA. He is also survived by hundreds of friends; all will miss him deeply. Blane was a native of Hazleton, PA, the son of the late Albert J. and Audrey B. Bates. He graduated from Hazleton High School-Class of 1973, attended Penn State University for several years, and then graduated from Empire Beauty School. Blane loved animals dearly, they were his joy. In his memory memorial gifts may be sent to PAWS (animal shelter) at 1401 Trout Road, State College, PA 16801. Blane, aka "Slash" played a wicked game of pool, and enjoyed darts, gourmet cooking and the outdoor beauty of central Pennsylvania. A memorial gathering to celebrate Blane's joy of life will be held Saturday, July 18, 2009, beginning at 3 p.m. at the home of Roy and Hammer Sletson, 215 Madisonburg Pike, Madisonburg, PA 16852. Ah Blane, we may have been friends in high school, but would have been absolute BFFs as adults based on our common interests - and I would have LOVED to have you as my hair stylist! smiley Love, light & peace to all... until we meet again.
